Getting Your Life Back

It’s one thing to exist and it’s another thing to actually live. Many of us haven’t really crossed the bridge from existing to living because of the many things holding us back.

We are so trapped in our worry, anxiety, bitterness, grief, and the list goes on. And, because of that, we haven’t let go of certain burdens that have weighed us down.

Over the years, I have learned that worrying and intentionally festering hurt is like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do but it takes you nowhere. It hinders you from actually living the best life God wants for you.

I used to be a worrywart and it wasn’t fun. Perpetual worrying didn’t take away any of my problems. Instead, it did a good job of exhausting the life out of me.

Studying the Bible made me realise that worrying was synonymous to flogging a dead horse.

“Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? And if worry can’t accomplish a little thing like that, what’s the use of worrying over bigger things?”

— Luke 12:25-26 (NLT)

I had to stop trying to control things I clearly had no control over. I had to learn how to trust God to do what only Him can do. I had to learn how to take the back seat and drop all my worries at his feet just like Peter advised:

Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.”

— 1 Peter 5:7 (NLT)

I still worry sometimes which is a normal way of life but I have come a long way from the chronic worrier I used to be in the way that I allowed it to steal my peace.

Getting my life back from the grasp of worst-case-scenarios, what-ifs, what-aboutism and other excessive forms of worrying was an intentional act which was only made possible by studying what God has said about everything that concerns me.

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

– Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT)

Now, I am at peace with myself as I journey through life not as a nervous wreck but as a confident woman who has a God that shows up.

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

– Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT)

I hope this helps someone out there who was once a worrywart like me.

Have a wonderful day❤
